You might be asking yourself “should I do a first look?” and we believe you should do what is best for your day and for you as a couple. However, it’s better to know exactly what a first look is so that you can make the right decision. Here we will answer some questions you may have about it:

What is a first look?

A first look is when you get to see your fiancé in private before the wedding ceremony.

How long will it take?

It can be anything from a 5 minute reveal just moments before your ceremony to an hour long portrait session that follows the initial reveal.

Will it not ruin the element of surprise coming down the aisle?

No, walking down the aisle in the dress is a show in itself. Nothing can take away those feelings of excitement.

What is the main benefit of doing a first look?

Typically you don’t see each other in the morning. Once the ceremony is over, you’re (usually) straight into family photos, bridal party photos, cocktails, portraits and then reception. Having a first look gives you a special moment to just take each other in. It’s a private moment you get to share together as a couple before all the hype of the day continues.

How does it work and where do we do it?

Your photo + video team can help set it up. There might be a park close to the ceremony location or an indoor space that can work perfectly. Usually, we position one of you facing one direction and the other walks up behind and taps the other on the shoulder and we wait for the reaction. It’s happy days for us because we capture that moment on camera and its always EPIC!

Tell me more! What are some other benefits of doing it?

Speaking from experience, sometimes the morning can bring on some excitement in the form of nerves which is completely natural. Going straight into your ceremony where you might have 70-200+ guests waiting to see you, and that can add to those nerves. Taking away the intimacy of seeing each other for the first time not to mention you’re also taking in those 70-200+ guest reactions.

Getting to have that intimate moment with your love calms everything down. We have seen the shoulders drop and the smiles beam. We’ve had grooms come up to us after the reveal and say “thank you so much, I feel way better now”.
